The company served as the sole correctional healthcare sponsor of the January 22-23 event, attracting more than 100 southern state corrections representatives.
The Southern States Correctional Association (SSCA) is a non-profit regional organization representing professionals in criminal justice agencies from 14 southern states. SSCA was formed in 1969, and is the most active regional organization of its kind in the United States. Approximately 1,200 corrections professionals, law enforcement officers and others interested in corrections currently maintain membership in the SSCA.
“CMS has always been a strong partner for us,” said Kevin Murphy, President of the SSCA and Human Resources Administrator for the Arkansas Department of Correction, a CMS client. “Arkansas and CMS are like a seamless team, we have a pretty good working relationship with them. Our corrections employees work hand in hand with CMS at the facilities and it’s like we’re one big family. So, it’s nice to see CMS’ involvement at the SSCA conference and the corrections community at large.”
Murphy says the Winter Planning conference was one of the most successful for the organization and featured numerous opportunities for corrections officials to meet and share ideas.
“The event was a great opportunity to meet with corrections officials from a number of southern states and introduce them to our correctional healthcare programs, such as those incorporating pharmacy and psychiatric services,” said Dottie Yarbrough, CMS Arkansas Senior Regional Manager. “It was nice meeting with a variety of current and possibly potential clients all in one setting so I could explain to them what we are doing in Arkansas and how we may be able to help them achieve similar success with their correctional healthcare program.”
The SSCA will host its summer conference on July 11-14 in Hot Springs, with an expected attendance of over 400 corrections professionals. CMS representatives will also be present at the event, enabling another opportunity for corrections departments to learn more about how the company can deliver accountability and transparency to their correctional healthcare program.
