Correctional Medical Services

CMS in Our Communities

  • Loading...

The passion of CMS’ people for doing the right thing extends beyond the prison or jail setting where we work.

Correctional Medical Services, Inc. is committed to serving the whole communities where we live and work. Because our medical staff at most sites are drawn largely from the surrounding area, CMS nurses, physicians and other healthcare professionals already have deep roots in the local and surrounding communities. People who work at CMS also work to nurture these relationships and join with other local groups to help meet a variety of needs. Read some examples of how we are supporting our communities:

Local Health Fairs - Little Rock, Arkansas
Correctional Medical Services employees in Arkansas are committed to preventive healthcare and instilling positive health habits in our communities. Employee participation in local health fairs such as one recently in Arkansas support low-income or uninsured patients with essential medical and dental services.

    Special Olympics – Cameron, Missouri
CMS Missouri staff go the distance for Special Olympics by participating in a recent local Polar Bear Plunge for the non-profit organization. Employees volunteered to “plunge” into the freezing waters of nearby Lake Viking in Gattlin, Missouri to help benefit athletes of of the Special Olympics. Employees at CMS’ Corporate Office in St. Louis also join forces each year for a variety of charitable initiatives:

    Adopt-A-School Program
Correctional Medical Services is doing its part to support students in our local public schools. As a part of an Adopt-a-School program, employees at CMS headquarters have supplied the 6th, 7th and 8th graders at L'Ouverture Middle School in St. Louis with school supplies since 2001. CMS employees across in 12 Maryland correctional medical units have also come together to adopt local elementary children, providing them with essential winter supplies.

    Ronald McDonald House
Since 1999, CMS employees have been preparing dinner on a monthly basis for guests of the Ronald McDonald House in St. Louis, a home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at local hospitals.

    United Way
CMS Corporate Office employees have come together since 1995 to support their local United Way with a successful annual fundraising campaign.  The office's 2009 campaign raised more than $37,000 for the United Way and featured activities such as a special kick-off rally, an Open House highlighting the many facets of the United Way, and "Denim Days," which enabled employees to dress down in exchange for a nominal campaign contribution.
