    What is CMS?
Correctional Medical Services, Inc. (CMS) is the country’s premier provider of contract correctional healthcare. We currently serve more than 290,000 inmates in more than 200 facilities nationwide. We work with county and state correctional institutions to design and manage healthcare programs aimed at the specific needs of this unique population. CMS, a privately held organization, has provided services to prisons and jails since 1979. We currently engage more than 6,000 healthcare professionals, including nurses, physicians, dentists and mental healthcare professionals. To meet the needs of every client, CMS offers a wide variety of services and programs.

    What services does CMS provide?
In short, CMS provides accountability to our corrections clients. Our clinical programs cover all aspects of personal wellbeing for the inmate population we serve, including medical, dental and mental health. These correctional healthcare programs have been customized to the specific needs of the inmates and institutions we serve. We provide everything from emergency care management to preventative medicine to chronic care and infectious disease treatment. Our protocols and procedures meet or exceed federally mandated requirements. We follow the standards of the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC) and the American Correctional Association (ACA).

Why a career in correctional healthcare?
This growing and dynamic field offers a rewarding career that encompasses ambulatory care health education, urgent care, infirmary care and specialty clinics for patients with chronic conditions. For medical professionals, working at a CMS facility means you can focus on healthcare without many of the burdens and risks of private practice.

    CMS?
As one of the leaders in correctional healthcare, Correctional Medical Services, Inc. offers healthcare professionals the chance to be at the forefront of this growing industry and to work for a company with an excellent reputation. In addition to competitive compensation packages, we provide the resources, training and advancement opportunities you need to grow your career. Talented physicians, nurses and other professionals can chart their career course while advancing the practice of correctional healthcare. CMS also offers a highly supportive and collaborative work environment and the opportunity for work-life balance.

    Where are we located?
Our Corporate office is in St. Louis, Missouri, and we provide services to dozens of correctional facilities across the country, meeting the healthcare needs of thousands of inmates. We expect the number of locations to grow as more states, counties and cities choose to outsource their inmate healthcare services to improve quality and cost-efficiency.

    Is it safe?
A quality, secure work environment is critical for CMS healthcare professionals and the effectiveness of care. In a correctional environment, all staff receive specific training in the areas of security and correctional procedures and there are many security measures in place. In fact, due to the emphasis on safety, many people say they feel it may be more secure than a typical hospital or emergency department setting.

What type of professionals work at CMS?
Because CMS must provide the entire spectrum of healthcare services for the incarcerated population, there are opportunities with CMS for nearly every kind of healthcare professional, including nursesphysicians, dentists, nurse practitioners/physician assistants  and mental health professionals. In addition to healthcare professionals, CMS needs administrative, management  and other support staff to provide support for healthcare staff in the field and other vital functions.
