We understand prison and jail health care delivery systems. Each type of facility has its own unique environment and medical treatment considerations. Indeed, each facility has distinct circumstances that influence the way care can best be provided.
Our clients include numerous jail systems. In the fast-paced jail setting, we have established comprehensive processes associated with patient flow from intake to final placement. Our Jail Intake System provides a framework upon which patient care management is built. We identify those at risk for substance abuse withdrawal, mental health problems, chronic conditions and communicable diseases. Because jail inmate stays are often short, Correctional Medical Services, Inc. (CMS) builds linkages with community care providers such as substance abuse centers and community mental health providers to facilitate follow-up care after release, and implement community health oriented preventive care and communicable disease prevention processes wherever possible.
In the 10 state prison systems in which we serve, the focus is on managing both acute and chronic conditions. The goal is to avoid acute and prevent exacerbation of chronic disease. Because of the inmates' longer lengths of stay in the prison settings, we are able to make measurable improvements in long-term disease management as well as address patients’ health education needs.
Company-wide clinical initiatives such as the diabetes, cardiac care, and emergency management programs are another way CMS stands head and shoulders above its competitors. These programs are developed using evidence-based treatment recommendations, and include mentoring and education for providers, nursing and patient education, and collaboration with our correctional partners. Sophisticated data analysis identifies individual patients and specific sites to optimize care for as appropriate.
