CMS will build on its five years of service in the state

St. Louis, MO - The State of Idaho has once again selected Correctional Medical
Services, Inc. (CMS) to deliver comprehensive healthcare services in state
Department of Correction (DOC) facilities. Under the agreement, CMS healthcare
professionals will provide medical, mental health, dental care and other
health-related services to approximately 5,000 inmate patients.
CMS staff will provide services in eight existing DOC facilities and one
yet-to-be-opened facility. CMS has provided such services in Idaho prisons for
five years. As part of the new agreement, the state’s costs for inmate
healthcare are expected to decrease more than $500,000 per year from the
previous contract.
“Our team in Idaho has done outstanding work meeting the healthcare needs
of inmate patients, while helping the state efficiently utilize resources,”
said Richard H. Miles, Chairman and CEO of CMS. “As a result, under the new
agreement, we were able to offer savings by implementing additional utilization
management tools.”
The new, reduced-price agreement began July 1 and will run
for three years, with the potential for two one-year extensions.
During CMS’s recent tenure with state of Idaho, the company and the state
worked together to achieve accreditation for all existing Idaho DOC facilities
from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) – a
standard-setting body dedicated to care in the nation’s prisons and jails. Only
a small percentage of correctional facilities achieve such accreditation.
“We have in place a strong team of 125 Idaho residents who are dedicated
to serving the state and inmate patients,” said Miles. “We are proud to have
been selected again to help the state fulfill this important responsibility.”
CMS provides healthcare services to 290,000 inmate patients in
correctional facilities in 20 states.
