Key managers from Correctional Medical Services, Inc. (CMS) – the nation’s leading contract correctional healthcare firm – recently presented the latest in correctional healthcare best practices during the American Correctional Association’s (ACA) 139th Congress of Corrections conference in Nashville.

During the August conference, CMS staff led four educational workshops, focusing on innovations and advancements in correctional medicine. CMS presentations included:

  • Telepsychiatry: A Clinical/Administrative Integrated Approach – Speaker: Jeffrey Kesler, Vice President of Behavioral Health; Moderator: Sheryl Salaris, M.D., Corporate Lead Psychiatrist

  • Patient Care Services Nursing: The Key to Effective Chronic Care – Speakers: Holly Mathis, Complex Case Manager; Peggy Minyard, Alabama Regional Director of Nursing; Moderator: Melanie Wahl, Senior Director, Patient Care Services

Wahl says the presentations enabled company managers to share successful healthcare strategies for the correctional environment and were well-received by conference attendees.

"Sharing best practices and disease management strategies at this conference allows us the offer the benefits of our experience in the specialized field of correctional healthcare," said Wahl. "In addition, we have the opportunity to learn from others as well, broadening our knowledge base and promoting networking with colleagues who face mutual challenges."

CMS also sponsored an exhibit booth during the industry conference, enabling representatives to meet with a number of correctional officials and review the comprehensive range of correctional healthcare solutions offered by the company.

"It was great to meet some of our current clients and interact with potential future clients," said Jeff Winter, Vice President, Business Development. "We had high interest from many self-operated systems. The budget challenges facing government agencies across the country have them taking a close look at how they can most effectively provide inmate healthcare services. Given our 30 years of demonstrated expertise and our reputation as the high-quality provider, CMS is well-positioned to help agencies meet that challenge, while most effectively utilizing taxpayer resources."
