State of Tennessee Partners with Correctional Medical Services

Nashville, Tennessee - February 05, 2010

The Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) has partnered with Correctional Medical Services, Inc. (CMS) to meet the healthcare needs of more than 18,500 inmates in TDOC facilities. Since January 1 of this year, CMS has been providing comprehensive healthcare services to inmate patients in Tennessee prisons. The three-year contract with the state includes medical, dental and pharmacy services at five prison sites, along with coordinated care services (including physicians, dentists, pharmacy and off-site care) at seven Tennessee prisons. The state selected CMS after a comprehensive procurement process that included detailed evaluation of proposals from several correctional healthcare providers.

“Our firm has been supporting the correctional healthcare needs of state and local governments for more than three decades,” said Jeffrey Winter, Vice President, New Business Development for CMS. “That experience allowed us to put together a plan that specifically met the needs of the state. We look forward to working in partnership with Tennessee to deliver quality care, while helping to most effectively utilize taxpayer resources.”

CMS currently partners with 11 statewide prison systems to deliver care. In total, CMS healthcare professionals provide healthcare services in 336 correctional facilities across the country, addressing the needs of over 274,000 inmate patients each day.
